Equality and Diversity

At Sayes Court School, we believe in equality for all our pupils, staff and visitors.

Our admissions policy is stringent and does not allow for discrimination in any way, shape or form.  We delight in the versatility of our pupils and consider ourselves lucky to have families with such diverse and varied ethnicities and home languages.  Throughout the course of their time here, we equip our pupils with the ability to understand their place in a truly diverse society.

At present, we have no pupils with a physical disability however our school is accessible to all, with ramps leading into the main entrances and wide doorways throughout the majority of the school.

Sayes Court School complies with the duties required of us under the Equality Act 2010 as follows: -

Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation

Children are taught primarily by example.  Staff and other adults coming to our school treat each other, and pupils, with respect and dignity no matter who they are. 

As part of PSHE, we cover topics that demonstrate to our pupils how wonderful diversity is and that bullying is unacceptable.

Advance equality of opportunity

Here at Sayes Court, all our pupils are encouraged to try new things; sports, cooking, dance, music.  Nobody is discouraged; everyone is supported.

Foster good relations

We celebrate team work and team spirit across our school, encouraging all our pupils to work together.

Our objectives

  • to promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through all appropriate curricular and extra-curricular opportunities .  We aim to meet this objective with particular reference to issues of equality and diversity
  • to reduce prejudice and increase understanding of equality through direct teaching across the curriculum
  • to move beyond deterministic notions of fixed ability and to model teaching and learning behaviours that avoid labelling
  • to promote cultural development and understanding through a rich range of experience, both in and beyond the school
  • to eradicate prejudice related bullying in relation to the protected characteristics listed in the Equality Act 2010
  • to tackle prejudice and promote understanding in relation to people with disabilities
