Sports Funding

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is a ring-fenced grant provided by the Department for Education to help schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer. The government recognises that regular physical activity is vital for children’s physical health, mental wellbeing, and academic achievement. At Sayes Court Primary and Nursery School we use this funding to ensure that all our students—regardless of their background or ability—have access to high-quality PE and a wide range of opportunities to lead active, healthy lives.

The primary aim of the funding is to make additional and sustainable improvements to our existing provision. Rather than simply funding "one-off" events, the grant is designed to build long-term capacity and capability within the school. We focus our spending on five key indicators set out in the national guidance:

  1. Increasing staff confidence and skills through professional development and mentoring.

  1. Engaging all pupils in regular physical activity (aiming for the recommended 60 active minutes a day).

  1. Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement.

  1. Offering a broader range of sports and activities to encourage participation from all students.

  1. Increasing participation in competitive sport through inter and intra-school events.
