Pupil Premium Strategy
What is Pupil Premium Funding?
The Pupil Premium is a grant provided by the Department for Education (DfE) to state-funded schools in England. Its primary purpose is to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and to close the attainment gap between these students and their peers. According to DfE guidelines, schools receive this additional funding for pupils who are currently eligible for free school meals (or have been in the last six years), children who are looked after by the local authority, and children of service personnel. While the funding is calculated based on specific pupil numbers, it is not a personal budget for individual children; instead, the DfE empowers school leaders to use the grant strategically to support the achievement and well-being of eligible pupils across the school.
Our Vision for the Funding
At the heart of our school is the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to flourish, regardless of their background or circumstances. We use our Pupil Premium funding intentionally to ensure that all pupils feel a profound sense of belonging within our school community. We are dedicated to removing any financial or social barriers to participation; therefore, we use the grant to support all pupils in accessing a wide range of extra-curricular activities, ensuring they can enjoy the same rich experiences and hobbies as their peers.
Recognising that consistent attendance is the foundation of academic success, we also use these resources to provide bespoke support to help pupils attend school regularly. Furthermore, we understand that a child’s emotional well-being is paramount to their learning. By allocating funding to support pupils’ emotional needs, we provide the necessary pastoral care and stability to ensure every child feels safe, confident, and empowered to reach their full potential.
